Hi! My name is Josie Atkinson, and I’m the owner of Hope Haven Clothing.
Hope Haven was born from my own experience of surviving domestic violence in a previous marriage. During that time, I felt incredibly alone, stuck, confused, and disconnected from the person I used to be. I knew something wasn’t right, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what was happening.
Eventually, the conversation turned to divorce, and suddenly, it felt like my entire world was falling apart. That was it; I was getting divorced in my 20s, and at the time, I couldn’t help but feel like I had failed. I felt ashamed, overwhelmed, and unsure of what my life was supposed to look like from there.
I found support after reaching out to friends and family. Later, I went to an abuse center that helped me to get the counseling that I needed. That support reminded me that healing is possible and that no one should have to walk their journey alone. After receiving the help I needed, I felt a strong desire to give back and support other women.
When I searched for domestic violence awareness clothing, I noticed there were very few options. Most options felt dark, heavy, and focused on pain. Many clothing also categorized all men as evil or bad. After coming from so much darkness myself, I knew that was not what survivors needed most.
I believe survivors need light.
Hope Haven Clothing was created to: 1. bring hope, healing, and empowerment through uplifting apparel. 2. Spread awareness and support shelters that provide safety and restoration. Each piece is meant to walk alongside survivors on their healing journey and remind them of their strength and worth.
“Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come”
Proverbs 31:25
So I got divorced in my 20s… but I couldn’t be happier with how things turned out. Today, I’m remarried to my husband, Adam Atkinson, who reminds me daily how deeply I am loved and cared for. I thank God for him and for the healing He has brought into my life. He is my adventure buddy, my best friend, my number 1 supporter, my one and only, and my forever boy.
I am excited to see how Hope Haven continues to grow, spread awareness, and help those who need it most. Thanks for taking the time to hear my story 🫶
